How LendingTree Rates Credit Cards?
Our experts rate credit cards based on several factors including card benefits, bonus offers and independent research. Credit card issuers do not influence or have a say in our card ratings. Read our credit card methodology here. The Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card will help you earn more than your average cash back card, especially if you’re a frequent Amazon shopper. It offers 3% cash back on Amazon purchases, which is one of the highest rewards rates you get without a Prime membership. But it isn’t just a great card for Amazon. It’s a strong, well-rounded rewards credit card, offering elevated cash back rates on gas, dining, local transit and commuting in addition to Amazon, Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods purchases.
The benefits of the Amazon credit card go beyond cash back — they include a sign-up bonus and a host of consumer protections and travel insurances. Cardholders also have access to some of the best Amazon financing offers. With no annual fee and no foreign transaction fees, this card presents few drawbacks. But you may be able to earn more with competing cards like the Amazon Prime Visa.

Earning Amazon points
3% back at Amazon.com, Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market, and on Chase Travel purchases, 2% back at gas stations, restaurants, and on local transit and commuting (including rideshare), and 1% back on all other purchases.
Between its 3% bonus on Amazon purchases and elevated earnings on categories like gas and restaurants, the Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card offers more value than your average cash back card. You’ll get 2% cash back on lucrative categories, like gas stations and restaurants. It may be one of the more rewarding cash back cards around.
However, Amazon shoppers may get more value from the Amazon Prime Visa Card, which requires a Prime membership but offers 5% cash back on Amazon purchases. Online shoppers might earn more with a card for general online purchases like the Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express. If your purchases don’t fit any bonus categories, a flat-rate card like the Chase Freedom Unlimited® can be more lucrative.

Sign-up bonus
$50 Amazon Gift Card instantly upon approval.
This is a comparatively modest offer. The best credit card sign-up bonuses are worth hundreds of dollars — sometimes even thousands. On the plus side, you receive the gift card instantly with no spending requirement. Cards typically require you to spend a large amount within the first few months of card opening to earn a sign-up bonus.
Redeeming Amazon points
Amazon rewards are much easier to redeem than average. Your Amazon rewards points will show up in your Amazon rewards balance at checkout as soon as the next day. Points can also be redeemed to pay for part or all of your purchase with no minimum redemption amount. In comparison, many cash back cards require you to manually transfer points or save up a minimum balance before redeeming.
Also, while some cash back cards only let you redeem points for cash, Amazon reward points can be redeemed at a rate of 1 cent per point for cash back, gift cards, and travel through Chase.com.

Other benefits
This card offers a longer list of benefits with higher coverage limits than what you’d get with most no-annual-fee cash back credit cards. Competitors like the Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express, for example, offer more limited purchase protection and no baggage delay, lost luggage or travel accident insurance. However, if you’re looking for comprehensive purchase and travel protections and willing to pay an annual fee, you might want to consider a premium travel credit card, like the Chase Sapphire Reserve®.
The Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card and Amazon Prime Visa are virtually the same credit card, except the Prime Visa offers a higher 5% cash back rate on Amazon, Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods and Chase Travel purchases. That said, it requires you to have a Prime membership, which costs $139 per year.
