Hanover only offers a few discounts to make its home insurance rates cheaper. These include discounts for:

  • New homes
  • Recent home buyers
  • Safety and security devices
  • Affinity group or association members

Hanover’s home insurance coverages let you customize your coverage. The most important factors to consider include:

  • Scheduled items: This gives your jewelry and other valuables extra protection. Standard home insurance only provides limited coverage for jewelry and other valuables.
  • Water backup coverage: Standard policies don’t cover damage from a sewer or drainage failure. This relatively cheap add-on covers cleanup and repair costs for mishaps like these.
  • Guaranteed replacement coverage: If the cost of rebuilding your home goes over your policy’s dwelling limit, you normally have to cover the difference. Guaranteed replacement covers this amount for you.

Hanover’s Prestige package includes water backup, guaranteed replacement and other coverages at no extra charge. Platinum customers have to pay extra to add these and other coverages to their homeowners policy.

Hanover and Citizens insurance quotes are widely available from independent insurance agents. Its website doesn’t give you quotes. Instead, it helps you find agents near you who can. Many of these agents accept quote requests through their websites.

Independent agents can usually get you quotes from several different companies. This helps you comparison shop.

However, independent agents can’t get quotes from companies with exclusive agents, including State Farm and Allstate. You have to contact these companies or their agents separately.

Methodology

LendingTree gets insurance rates from Quadrant Information Services using publicly sourced insurance company filings. Rates are based on an analysis of auto and home insurance rates for typical customers in Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan and New Hampshire. Prices are shown for comparative purposes only. Your own rates may be different.

Unless noted otherwise, auto quotes are for a full-coverage policy for a 30-year-old man with good credit and a clean driving record who drives a 2015 Honda Civic EX.

Minimum-liability policies provide liability coverage with each state’s required minimum limits.

Full-coverage policies include collision, comprehensive and liability coverage:

  • Bodily injury liability: $50,000 per person, $100,000 per accident
  • Property damage liability: $25,000
  • Uninsured/underinsured motorist bodily injury: $50,000 per person and $100,000 per accident
  • Personal injury protection: where required by law

Our team of insurance experts rated insurance companies based on several categories. These categories include average rates, discounts, coverage options, third-party customer service ratings and app/website experience. We weighted these categories based on what customers value in an insurance company.

For third-party customer service ratings, we included Complaint Index scores from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and financial strength ratings from A.M. Best. NAIC Complaint Index scores are used to determine how satisfied customers are with their claims, while financial strength ratings from A.M. Best reflect the ability to pay out claims.
